Joey Stylez: The OG Pioneer Returns With God Bless the Warriors
For more than a decade, Joey Stylez has stood as one of the most recognizable pioneers of Indigenous hip-hop. The First Nations rapper from Saskatchewan helped shape the modern sound and identity of the movement long before Indigenous hip-hop began receiving the global recognition it is gaining today.
Now the veteran artist is stepping back into the spotlight with his newest project, "God Bless the Warriors," continuing his mission of empowering Indigenous voices through music and storytelling.
An OG Voice in Indigenous Hip-Hop
Joey Stylez has been part of the Indigenous hip-hop movement since the late 2000s, building a catalog that blends modern rap with themes of culture, identity, and resistance.
Over the years he has released several influential projects including:
- Red Makaveli (2012)
- Feathers (2013)
- #GreyMagic (2016)
- The Star Chief (2018)
- Warrior Sun (2019)
- 3 Eye Hip (2021)
- Horsethieves & Bootleggers (2023)
Each release helped push Indigenous hip-hop further into the mainstream conversation while staying grounded in community and cultural pride.
Stylez has long used his platform to speak about issues affecting Indigenous people, while also celebrating resilience, humor, and warrior spirit.
God Bless the Warriors
With God Bless the Warriors, Joey Stylez continues that message.
The project carries a powerful theme: honoring the strength and perseverance of Indigenous people past and present. The title alone reflects the spirit of resistance and survival that has always been at the core of his music.
Recent releases surrounding the project include songs like:
- Blood Type
- Elders
- Light of Mine
- Modern Warriors
All of which highlight Stylez's blend of sharp lyricism and socially conscious storytelling.
The music carries the same fearless energy that made Joey Stylez a standout voice in Indigenous hip-hop in the first place—mixing modern production with messages about identity, community, and warrior mentality.
Building a Legacy
Beyond music, Joey Stylez has played an important role in opening doors for the next generation of Indigenous artists.
The rise of artists such as Drezus, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Supaman, and many others owes something to the groundwork laid by pioneers like Joey Stylez who helped establish Indigenous hip-hop as a legitimate movement.
His influence extends far beyond streaming numbers or chart placements. For many fans and artists, Joey Stylez represents a generation of Indigenous creators who refused to wait for the music industry to recognize them—they built their own platform instead.
The Warrior Spirit Continues
With God Bless the Warriors, Joey Stylez reminds listeners why he remains one of the most respected figures in Indigenous hip-hop.
The message is clear: the culture is alive, the movement is growing, and the warriors are still here.
And as the next generation of Indigenous artists continues to rise, the legacy of pioneers like Joey Stylez will remain at the foundation of it all.
