Ms. Shellz: From Survival to Strength — Building a Movement Through Music and Native By Nature
Some stories in hip-hop are about fame. Others are about survival.
The story of Ms. Shellz is about transformation.
Before becoming a respected Indigenous hip-hop artist and the founder of the streetwear brand Native By Nature, Ms. Shellz lived through a difficult chapter of life growing up in Saskatchewan, where gang culture and violence surrounded many young people trying to find their way.
But instead of letting that environment define her future, she made the decision to leave it behind.
Moving west to Vancouver, Ms. Shellz set out to rebuild her life — and that is exactly what she has done.
Today, she stands as both an artist and entrepreneur who has turned adversity into purpose.
Breaking Free and Rebuilding
Leaving the life she once knew in Saskatchewan was not an easy decision.
Gang violence and destructive cycles can trap people in situations that feel impossible to escape. For Ms. Shellz, breaking away from that environment required courage, determination, and a belief that something better was possible.
When she arrived in Vancouver, she began focusing on rebuilding her life through creativity and culture.
Hip-hop became one of the tools that helped her channel her experiences and transform them into something powerful.
Rather than hiding from her past, she uses those experiences as fuel — bringing honesty and strength into the music she creates today.
