Ms. Shellz: From Survival to Strength — Building a Movement Through Music and Native By Nature

Some stories in hip-hop are about fame. Others are about survival.

The story of Ms. Shellz is about transformation.

Before becoming a respected Indigenous hip-hop artist and the founder of the streetwear brand Native By Nature, Ms. Shellz lived through a difficult chapter of life growing up in Saskatchewan, where gang culture and violence surrounded many young people trying to find their way.

But instead of letting that environment define her future, she made the decision to leave it behind.

Moving west to Vancouver, Ms. Shellz set out to rebuild her life — and that is exactly what she has done.

Today, she stands as both an artist and entrepreneur who has turned adversity into purpose.

Breaking Free and Rebuilding

Leaving the life she once knew in Saskatchewan was not an easy decision.

Gang violence and destructive cycles can trap people in situations that feel impossible to escape. For Ms. Shellz, breaking away from that environment required courage, determination, and a belief that something better was possible.

When she arrived in Vancouver, she began focusing on rebuilding her life through creativity and culture.

Hip-hop became one of the tools that helped her channel her experiences and transform them into something powerful.

Rather than hiding from her past, she uses those experiences as fuel — bringing honesty and strength into the music she creates today.

A Voice in Indigenous Hip-Hop

Within the Indigenous hip-hop scene, Ms. Shellz has developed a style that blends rap and melodic vocals, allowing her to shift between powerful bars and soulful hooks.

Her music reflects:

  • Real-life experiences
  • Resilience and survival
  • Cultural pride
  • Personal growth

It's a sound rooted in authenticity — something that resonates strongly within Indigenous hip-hop communities where storytelling has always been central to the culture.

Through performances, collaborations, and community events, Ms. Shellz has become a recognizable voice within the Indigenous music movement.

Native By Nature: Turning Culture Into a Brand

While building her music career, Ms. Shellz also launched something that would grow into a movement of its own.

She founded Native By Nature, an Indigenous streetwear brand that celebrates culture, identity, and empowerment.

Native By Nature represents more than clothing — it reflects the idea that Indigenous people carry their heritage with them every day.

The brand merges urban streetwear aesthetics with Indigenous pride, creating apparel that allows people to represent culture in a modern way.

Through Native By Nature, Ms. Shellz has shown that entrepreneurship can be another powerful tool for cultural expression.

A Story Bigger Than Music

What makes Ms. Shellz's story powerful isn't just the music or the brand she built.

It's the journey.

From surviving gang violence to rebuilding her life on the West Coast, she represents a story of resilience that many people can relate to.

And through everything she's accomplished — music, entrepreneurship, and cultural representation — Ms. Shellz continues to show that it is possible to turn hardship into strength.

Her story stands as proof that where you start doesn't have to determine where you end up.
